What’s Needed to Time Travel at Home

by Kenny Hoeschen

Cosmologist Andrew Pontzen and particle physicist Tom Whyntie of Head Squeeze look at the question of whether time travel is possible. The simple answer is yes. The more complex answer is it requires traveling close to the speed of light. And always going forward. Unless you find a wormhole.

Pontzen and Whyntie do a terrific job of explaining the basics of time travel based on Einstein’s theory of relativity and the possibility of using a wormhole to travel backward in time. You can travel forward in time by simply flying in a rocket at near the speed of light. (This reminds us of the classic Steven Martin bit about how to be a millionaire and never have to pay taxes. First: get a million dollars…). So, time to get our materials together and get started!
