The Empire Strikes Back Retold in Iconoscope

The Empire Strikes Back Retold in Iconoscopezoom in

Designer/illustrator Wayne Dorrington previously put together an “iconoscope” retelling the story of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope using nothing but a simple set of icons. He’s also created an iconoscope for the next film in the series, The Empire Strikes Back. He found this iconoscope to be much more complex and in-depth compared to the first. Plus, this one had many more costume changes with the characters. It required about twice as many panels as the first to tell the whole story.

The entire story is told in a 63 panels. Dorrington originally split the story into two panels, but we’ve pasted them back together into a single image, so limber up your scrolling finger! We love panel 8, with Han cutting open the Tauntaun to save Luke. And panel 15 is hilarious, with the Battle of Hoth depicted as the classic video game, Defender.
