Three space colony summer studies were conducted at NASA Ames in the 1970s. The three studies looked at the toroidal colonies with a population of up to 10,000; the Bernal Sphere with a spherical living area and again with a population of up to 10,000; and cylindrical colonies for populations of over one million. A number of artistic renderings of the concepts were made, shown in the gallery below.
