Blacksmith Crafts Hit Girl’s Detachable Sword

by Kenny Hoeschen

Tony Swatton, aka “Man at Arms“, is a master swordsmith and renowned propmaster who forges iconic weapons using high-speed belt grinders, scorching furnaces, and pounding power hammers. Then he takes his weapon to the streets to bust up some stuff. This video shows Swatton’s creation of Hit Girl’s detachable sword as seen in the upcoming film, Kick-Ass 2.

He based his design off the concept art poster, showing a socketed spearhead. The spearheads are made from 1/4″ thick steel. Of course, he uses his fullering dies and swage block to make fast work of the steel (we have no idea what those terms mean). Regardless, the end result is really cool and looks like Hit Girl could really “kick ass” with one Swatton’s weapons.
