The Hobbit as Told in Stained Glass

by Kenny Hoeschen
The Hobbit as Told in Stained Glasszoom in

This wonderful artwork by Jian Guo illustrates the story of The Hobbit in the style of stained glass art. The detail of these illustrations is incredible and we think they are absolutely stunning. We cannot imagine the work that went into them, let alone considering what would be required if they were ever made into real stained glass pieces.

The piece shown above, a long long adventure with hobbit, shows Bilbo’s story, beginning with Gandalf and the dwarves on the left and continuing through meeting Gollum, being treed by the wolves and rescued, the elves of Rivendell and Lake-town and his final encounter with Smaug at the Lonely Mountain. In the gallery below, we’ve included a few of Guo’s other Hobbit images, first with Bilbo Baggins in Bag End, then the night of planning with Bilbo, Gandalf, and the dwarves, and finally Bilbo and the dwarves taking refuge from the Orcs and wolves in the trees and the eagles coming to rescue them.
