Elysium Extended Trailer: Max Takes Out a Droid

In this extended trailer for District 9 director Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium, Max (Matt Damon) gears up for battle against the droids and Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster) on the utopian space station, Elysium. Max gets outfitted with an augmented exoskeleton and advanced weapons that allow him to take down the security droids. But when Kruger is activated to eliminate Max, things get more difficult.

Elysium is set in the year 2159 in a world where the very wealthy live a life of peace on a man-made space station called Elysium that hovers above Earth and all the rest live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Matt Damon’s character, Max, is determined to break into Elysium, which also happens to be the most heavily guarded place in the universe. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster) is tasked with protecting Elysium from nonresidents and threats like Max. With his life hanging in the balance, Max reluctantly takes on the dangerous mission – one that pits him against Secretary Rhodes and her hard-line forces – but if he succeeds, he could save not only his own life, but millions of people on Earth as well.

Elysium hits U.S. theaters on August 9.
