The Walking Dead: Time Lapse Creating Bicycle Girl

by Kenny Hoeschen

AMC’s The Walking Dead’s Executive Producer Greg Nicotero discusses the first zombie we ever see on screen in the first episode of the series, the zombie that has become to be known as “bicycle girl.” The character (is a zombie a “character”?) is based on the first zombie Rick Grimes comes across in the comic book series. The team found the perfect actress to play the role, Melissa Cowan, who has the thin, long face they needed. The team crafted several prosthetic pieces for Gowan’s torso, head and face. But the process of making her up for the shoot only took about three hours. This clip contains a time-lapse of her transforming from normal human to an emaciated zombie torso.

The Walking Dead returns to AMC in October with another 16-episode season.
