Pacific Rim Featurette: The Kaiju Monsters

by Kenny Hoeschen

Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro explains why the look of the kaiju monsters are so important to Pacific Rim, based on their importance in Japanese films. In Pacific Rim, he tried to echo real animals in the kaiju. In fact, to honor the spirit and the feelings of the classic Japanese kaiju, del Toro wanted the Pacific Rim kaiju designers to consider how a man would fit inside the kaiju if each was a costumed character.

We also hear from Rinko Kikuchi (Mako Mori), Idris Elba (Stacker Pentacost), Charlie Hunnam (Raleigh Becket) and Producer Thomas Tull regarding their thoughts about the kaiju and how they are presented in Pacific Rim.

In theaters July 12.
