The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug Video Blog

Peter Jackson kicks off a new video blog for the making of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. In this video, we see some of the behind the scenes shooting of the film, the crew and actors travel back to New Zealand, unpack all the costumes, sets, and props that have been stored away for more than a year for some “pick up shooting.” It’s great to see the huge number of swords and bows made solely for shooting of the Dale Armory scene and Dwalin (Graham McTavish, Fili (Dean O’Gorman, and Bombur (Stephen Hunter) get together to practice a few battle scenes with the stunt coordinators. We also enjoyed seeing the full complement of dwarves prepare for the Battle of the Five Armies and Orlando Bloom with Evangeline Lilly riding on “horseback” in front of a green screen.

Peter Jackson begins the video by telling us that The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will not be making an appearance at Comic-Con San Diego this year due to production needs.
