The Hobbit Featurette: Middle Earth in New Zealand

by Kenny Hoeschen

Just a few days ago, the first trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug was released. Warner Bros. has now released a behind-the-scenes video of the filming locations in New Zealand. Beginning with the rebuilding of Hobbiton near Matamata on the North Island and on to the Twizel area on the South Island. We hear from Peter Jackson and a number of the actors on their thoughts of the locations and New Zealand itself. This is simply breathtakingly beautiful country.

As they are rebuilding the sets, some of them will be made permanent for future tourists. You will be able to book a tour and visit Bilbo’s home in the Shire. Without a doubt, tourism in New Zealand will increase again as the new Hobbit movies are released.
