Project ARKYD: Experience Zero G with New ContestJune 11th, 2013
Project ARKYD, the Kickstarter-funded space telescope, is nearing its funding goal of $1,000,000. Their most popular funding levels involve a “selfie” photo opportunity. For a pledge of just $25, the team will display your picture in space and then take a “selfie” of your picture with Earth in the background.
Now the team has launched a Facebook contest. Between now and June 14, submit a photo or video that illustrates how you feel about space. The grand prize is a zero-G flight experience, dinner with the founders of Planetary Resources, your video in space and more! Three runners-up will receive dinner with the founders of Planetary Resources, your video in space and more. Details are on the Planetary Resources Facebook page.
In addition to this cool contest (who wouldn’t want to experience zero G?), Brent Spiner joined the team for a community event, Rod Roddenberry (Gene Roddenberry’s son) spoke about the importance of the project, and Robert Picardo, who played the Doctor on Star Trek: Voyager also endorsed the project. Those three videos are embedded below. What a great project to help science in our schools. Pledge now and do your part.
