Creature From the Black Lagoon: Inside the Suit

by Kenny Hoeschen

In this interview, Ricou Browning, the actor who played the Creature in three 1950s films including the renowned Creature From the Black Lagoon, discusses what it was like to make the films and how the underwater scenes were done. Browning explains that he forgot he was wearing the suit while filming the scenes and it didn’t really feel cumbersome. However, contrary to what many people think, the suit didn’t contain a hidden air tank or a face mask. Both items were too bulky to be worn under the suit. Instead, Browning drew long breaths from air hoses places just off camera.
