Giant Asteroid Approaching Earth on May 31

by Kenny Hoeschen

An asteroid equal in size to about nine Queen Elizabeth 2 ocean liners will pass within 3.6 million miles of Earth on May 31. Although this seems like a great distance — it is 15 times the distance from the Earth to the Moon — it is hardly spitting distance in astronomical terms. Take a look at the video above and you’ll be shocked to see just how close this giant rock is going to be. This asteroid is similar in size to the one that wiped out the dinosaurs and the sobering fact is, no one knows where it came from. Fortunately, scientists have been tracking it closely and know with certainty it is not on a collision course with Earth.
