How Long Until Your House is Filled With Tribbles?

by Kenny Hoeschen

Star Trek: How Many Tribbles Will Fit in Your House?

Tribbles are trouble. Tribbles are meant to sooth humanoids, but it turns out tribbles breed like rabbits — or probably even faster — when provided with a food source. Captain Kirk and the Enterprise crew learned that the hard way in The Trouble with Tribbles. David Cross at the Movoto real estate blog has made a few calculations to help you determine how long it would take your own house to be filled with tribbles, should the occasion arise.

In The Trouble with Tribbles, Mr. Spock proposes that a single tribble can produce ten more tribbles every twelve hours. Seems logical. Cross then assumes the tribble ranges from 6″ to 12″ in diameter. Armed with those data points and the volume of your home, you can calculate how many hours until your house is swarming with the fuzzy little creatures. For comparison, Wayne Manor would be filled with tribbles in 72 hours and the Empire State Building in just 96 hours.
