Where to See This Week’s Annular Eclipse
May 9th, 2013

If you happen to be in Northern Australia or the northern part of Western Australia or Queensland this week, you’ll have the chance to catch the first solar eclipse of 2013. The folks at My Science Academy have a detailed guide to the eclipse and where you can view it. This will be an annular eclipse, when the Moon eclipses the Sun while near apogee and is hence visually too small to entirely cover the Sun. As My Science Academy warns, permanent eye damage can result from staring at the Sun without proper protection, and this can be near instantaneous when done through an unfiltered telescope. Proper precautions to protect your eyes MUST be taken throughout ALL phases of the eclipse.
