Stuff You Should Know: Do Zombies Really Exist?

by Kenny Hoeschen

Josh Clark and Charles (Chuck) Bryant discuss whether zombies actually exist. They begin by examining the story on which Wes Craven’s The Serpent and the Rainbow was based, that real zombies exist in one place on Earth: Haiti. The SYSK guys look at an underground, illegal punishment procedure in Haiti that puts people into a “zombified” not-quite-dead state. The procedure begins with application of “zombie powder” filled with things like pufferfish neurotoxins, marine toad toxins, tree frog skin irritants, human remains along with ground spiders and lizards. You can “cure” the zombie through use of the “zombie cucumber.”
