Favorite Scientist: Mr. Spock

Dr. Chris Smillie, Senior Lecturer at Nottingham Trent University with the Boisciences Academic Team, describes why Mr. Spock is his favorite scientist. Well, actually, Smillie admits that Charles Darwin is his favorite scientist, but that Mr. Spock — science officer and first officer on the starship Enterprise — is also his favorite scientist for different, more inspiration reasons.

Smillie admires Mr. Spock for being dispassionate, logical, and calculating; basing his theories on evidence instead of emotion. Smillie finds Mr. Spock to be the archetype of a scientist. His logical approach to a situation makes him a perfect companion for Captain Kirk, who often reacts on emotion.
